Focusing on the child, not forgetting you.

Our teams are made up of highly talented, dedicated and motivated individuals. While we all have our own specialisms, we have a collaborative ethos – ensuring we get the best outcomes for children and families.

Referral and Assessment

Focusing on the child, not forgetting you.

Our sole aim is to protect children. And this is exactly what Referral and Assessment team focus on. Handling cases that relate to children from the ages of 0 – 17, the nature of referrals will vary. Some children might be at risk, and some might already be suffering significant harm. We also assess families who are presenting as having No Recourse to Public Funds. Once we’ve identified the needs and risks of a child, the responsibility of the case is transferred to appropriate teams.

Safeguarding (East and West)

Focusing on the child, not forgetting you.

We work with children and families once they have been transferred from the Referral and Assessment service. We try to minimise the need for serious interventions - ensuring that young people are thoroughly safeguarded. The teams work closely with agencies to support parents and keep children at home.

CLA and Care leavers

Focusing on the child, not forgetting you.

Children who can’t go home to their families are supported by these teams. The main priority is ensuring that all young people are appropriately placed and their individual needs are met. We consider what’s best for a particular child – working closely with the Local Health Authority to review physical and mental health needs. And in the Care Leavers Service, we’re responsible for Looked After children who are 16 and older. We encourage children to actively be involved in their own care, and we support them as they realise their independent ambitions.

Fostering Adoption and Resources

Focusing on the child, not forgetting you.

Here in the Adoption Service, we support those families who wish to adopt a child. Working with all sections of the community, we provide a diverse pool of potential adoptive families. As part of this, we ensure all the relevant checks and reviews are in place – minimising safeguarding risks. We also support parents post-adoption, and enhance the well being of children who are placed in a new family setting.

The Family Placements Team recruits suitable foster carers for those children who are not able to stay in their own family. To recruit, we attend open evenings, and we undertake prospective visits. Along with planning for foster placements, we also monitor and support those involved throughout the journey.

Quality Improvement

Focusing on the child, not forgetting you.

In the Quality Improvement team, we offer an independent chairing service where we aim to improve outcomes for vulnerable children. It means that we oversee Child Protection Conferences, provide advice to other teams and give constructive feedback to social workers. And we find out about the quality of our support from parents and children – working collaboratively with other teams and partner agencies to improve this.

Early Intervention & Family Support

Focusing on the child, not forgetting you.

Our borough-wide early intervention and prevention service aims to protect and develop children – particularly those who don’t meet the threshold for Children’s Social Care. The Bromley Childrens Project helps children by offering a range of support for both the individuals and their families.
